LFBS was co-founded in 2011 by Canadians Morgan Wienberg and Sarah Martin who, while traveling to Haiti to volunteer after the devastating 2010 earthquake, witnessed the abuses and deception being perpetrated against children and families by the exploitative orphanage industry. What started with the idea for a temporary emergency safe house for children in Les Cayes has grown to encompass support to families in 45 communities across 9 departments. By partnering with local staff, authorities, social services and like-minded nonprofits, LFBS has evolved to become a leader in child protection and family reunification. Our team of Haitian staff each brings unique skills, talents and a special love for their work with children. With a vision to work alongside Haitians, inside their communities and outside the orphanage system, together, we’re a family advocating to help build strong families and communities.
